Tunnel #30 - The fastest shoe in the world
And the story behind the new Olympique Marseille's logo
Nobody does it like Pep. This is the title we chose for the 27th issue of Tunnel. The inspiration came from the Our Legacy shirt he wore during a Champions League game. Commenting on this, we wrote: “He’s still a fashion icon. Probably the best in football”. However, he now has a great rival in Vincent Kompany. The Bayern Munich coach has a style unlike any other manager, both on and off the pitch.
The latest example came at the Bernabéu during the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid, where he showcased three different outfits and kept his Y-3 hat on — this time matched with an olive green Britcore parka. He leads by example, and many of his players follow his lead, expressing their own style. One such player is Michael Olise, who showed up for the Real Madrid game wearing a neck warmer with a Chrome Hearts hat.
Olympique Marseille has decided to completely revamp its visual identity, updating its crest, font, and color palette. Meet the Swedish club that has become one of the most distinctive brands in European football. The next club to do so might be Como, especially if they can qualify for the Champions League. Here are some pictures of Clairefontaine before it was cool. Also, this is the reason why the Mercedes logo caused a problem for FIFA.
Marking their first collaboration, Carhartt WIP and Tokyo-based brand F.C. Real Bristol have created a capsule collection featuring sportswear-inspired apparel, accessories, and football memorabilia. This represents a first for Carhartt WIP, which steps into the world of F.C. Real Bristol, a fictional football team created by Japanese brand SOPH. Co.
We thought we had seen it all, but while working on another article, we came across Meredith McGrath and her stunning Wimbledon looks. This naturally led us to ask: will the future of visors be in tennis?
Salomon had one goal: to create the fastest shoe in the world, in collaboration with L’Art de l’Automobile. To achieve this, they even tested the shoe in a wind tunnel. The campaign is simply incredible.
With the 2026 World Cup approaching, the race to create the best football boots is becoming increasingly interesting. This week alone, we saw the launch of the first 3D-printed football boot by adidas, as well as the unveiling of the Nike Phantom, which has been completely redesigned by Travis Scott.
We started talking about the Champions League, and we’ll finish talking about it too. According to The Athletic, Nike has entered into official negotiations with UEFA to become the competition’s official match ball provider. While we wait for official confirmation, let’s take a trip down memory lane and look back at the times Nike made Champions League balls. See you next week.
